Historic Judgment
Created Year:2020年7月
Manko artist Rokudenashiko, who creates figurative objects using her own Manko(vagina) as a motif, made a 3d scan of her Manko in autumn 2013 and used the data to create the first Manko kayak of the current century, which was immersed in the Taman gawa (Tama River). That July and December 2014, she was arrested for her Manko art being obscene. She was arrested twice in 2014 for sending a URL to download 3d data as a return to patrons in a crowd fund for the production costs. In a post-indictment trial, she was acquitted of the Deco Mnako exhibition, but was found guilty of distributing 3d data on an electronic storage medium by the Supreme Court of Justice in July 2020, and was cleared of all previous convictions for her own Manko. Since her release, she has written a manga and a book about her experiences in detention, and continues to actively appeal for freedom of expression and produce 3d computer graphics. Her manga ‘What is Obscenity?’ has been translated into English, French, German, and Spanish and is now on sale worldwide to rave reviews. The documentary film ‘Female Pleasure’ (directed by Barbara Miller), in which she also appeared, was highly acclaimed abroad and won The Premio Zonta Club Locarno 2018 at the Locarno International Film Festival. The photo shows Rokudenashiko proudly holding up a hanging banner(with the words 'historic verdict' written on it) at the Supreme Court's judgment in July 2020, stating that while 99.9% of prosecutions in Japanese judicial trials result in a guilty verdict, her acquittal on the Deco Man exhibition was a historic verdict. A police car that happened to be driving on the road behind her enters.
